St James has been linked with Southwell Minister since Norman times, there has been a Prebend House in Halloughton since the 12th Century.  The church building was rebuilt in the Victorian period and the only remaining part of the building is the west wall.  St James is a small faithful congregation who host monthly services which are held on the second Sunday of each month. There are Benefice services two or three times a year in Halloughton.

Halloughton still has farming at its heart and the church celebrates the seasons throughout the year with special services. Including a traditional Plough service, celebration of Harvest, Carol service and others.
